AAWV EXHIBITIONS:

AAWV 66th Juried Exhibit May 24 – June 22, 2008 will be held at The Huntington Museum of Art. Awards total up to $4,000.00 including Best of Show and Awards of Excellence in 2D and 3D categories. Paul Hartmann, the chairperson for this exhibit, has asked for volunteers to assist with the show, 304-462-5800, pch1949@yahoo.com. Specifically, he needs people in the Huntington area to receive the art at the Museum on Fri, May 16 and Sat, May 17. This is an important show for AAWV at the Huntington Museum of Art. Please plan to attend and bring food to the reception that will be held on Saturday, May 24 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm.

Artists accepted for the Juried Show are: Members - Brittain McJunkin, Christian DeMaria, Riley Vann, Laura Moul, JP Owens, Mary Lou Wiegand, Laura Wiik, Sheila Caim, Betsy Cox, Caryl Toth, Anthony Young, Peter Papas (AKA Paul Hartmann); Non-Members – Jack McCullough, Helen Chilton, Dick Allowatt, Jeff Bryson, Michael Adkins, T. Paige Dalporpo, Diane Sanders, Cindy Ledsome. Congratulations to all!

Tamarack: AAWV has been invited to have a non-juried show at Tamarack from August 10 to September 12. All AAWV members (dues paid!) are welcome to participate, limited to three pieces per person. Delivery of art will be accepted from July 27 to August 4. The opening reception is August 10 from 3:00 to 4:30pm. Please plan to attend. Tamarack will hang the show and provide the refreshments! So don’t miss it!

Art Emporium: Peter Bramberg has expanded the Art Emporium and will show Allied Artists' work. His commission will be 30%.

ArtWalk- May 15, Art Emporium, 823 Quarrier St., Charleston, 5-8 PM. Bring your work to be exhibited before 5:00 pm and help to provide the refreshments. For More Details- see http://alliedartistswv.org. The weather is getting warmer so more people will be out and about. We need more people to participate!

Welcome to New Members juried in April 19: Jeanne K. Cochran (watercolor), Shelly Flory (acrylic and collages), Reed Krack (photography and violin making), William Patten (photography), Tandi L. Stephens (mixed media), Brandi Stevens (photography). We plan to have a new member reception in October.

AWARDS AND EXHIBITIONS:

Tamarack: “The Best of West Virginia” juried exhibition June 20 – August 3, 2008. Deadline is May 12. Five awards from $250 to $2,000. Prospectus is available at www.tamarackwv.com under jury information.

TSAA (Tri-State Arts Association) will hold their 2008 Juried Exhibition at the Huntington Museum of Art August 17 to September 14, 2008. Residents of West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky are eligible to enter up to 2 pieces of art. Judging will be done in person on August 4th at the Huntington Museum auditorium. Entry fee is $20.00 for members of TSAA and $25.00 for non-members. For more information see their website www.tristateartassociation.org.

Debbie Kalt Sisson will have a one man show at the Parkersburg Art Center. The opening is June 12 from 5:30-7:30 and the show will remain on display until July 12.

Helen Williams has been juried into the Dickirson Fine Art Gallery at Tamarack.

Augusta Craft Fair- The Juried Craft Fair will be held Saturday August 9, 2008, from 10am to 6pm in Elkins, West Virginia. It is part of the Augusta Festival, which runs from Friday August 10 through Sunday August 12, 2008. Jury sessions will be held on May 15, 2008. See www.augustaheritage.com for more information. MISCELLANEOUS:

Paintbrush Contest is on again for Festivall! CASH award for the Most Creative. Paintbrush must be 6 feet long. We will be hanging the old ones plus the new ones in the tents at Festivall.

Alban Theater has been purchased by the St. Albans Regional Development Authority to be converted into the St. Albans Arts and Conference Center. The mayor wants to show art and have art classes there. If you have ideas about uses for the center, contact Larry Bailey at mcwvprez@hotmail.com.

Call for Volunteers We need more volunteers to help telephone members to remind them of special events and meetings. Current 'Callers" are Helen Williams, Judy Douglas, Trisha Fox, and Linda Stonestreet. Many thanks for giving us their time and effort. We need more members to participate in the organization. Community Service: Kanawha Players want people to paint props for their performances. Community service is part of our mission and is necessary for us to receive grants.
