The February meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb 28 at 6:00pm at the SC Library. Rebecca will continue her program about writing a resume/artists statement/bio. The last program was so helpful and this will build on that. It is something that we ALL need to work on.

We have been presented with the possibility of renting a space in Charleston. The details have not yet been worked out but we wanted to know how many people might be interested in participating in a co-op setting - sharing the rent, etc. We need to know if there is enough interest to pursue it. Artistic Opportunities:
The prospectus for the AAWV 2012 Juried Show has been mailed and is also available here: prospectus_2012_aawv_juried_show. The application deadline is March 1st so don’t delay.

The Berkeley Arts Council and The Arts Centre are again joining forces to bring a juried art exhibit to The Arts Centre gallery in Martinsburg, WV April 20 – May 20, 2012 with the theme “Art and Earth: My Art – My World.” Artists in all media are invited to submit works that express their feelings about nature and the environment. Deadline for submission is February 20, 2012. Entry forms and schedule are posted on the Berkeley Arts Council web site (http://www.berkeleyartswv.org/juried_exhibit.php). Tyler Mountain YMCA in Cross Lanes will be hosting the first annual Young @ Art Competition and silent auction on March 2. Deadline is Feb 17. This competition is open to any child or student ages 2 years old – 12th grade in the categories of drawing, painting, sculpture, digital photography, and mixed media.
The Arts Council of Kanawha Valley will have a fundraiser on Feb 11, 2012 at the NiCource Gas Transmission Auditorium at 1700 MacCorkle Ave SE, Charleston. There will be drinks, appetizers, live music theater, short films, dance instruction, poetry, and a fine art exhibit which is open to any visual artist within one hour driving distance of Charleston. Size limit 12" x 12", less than 5 lbs, and must hang on the wall - 2 per artist. Submission date Feb 7 by 5pm, pick up date Feb 15 by 5pm. Commission is 30%. Saint Marks' Episcopal church 's Mardi Gras will be held Saturday Feb. 18th in St. Albans. Booths are $25. Contact Brenda Beatty 304 727-3015. There are limited vacancies. The event will be held Saturday midday with set up on Friday late afternoon and evening.. Lunch will be served ,and there will be New Orleans style music--live. This event is well established and is well attended by the greater community. If you don't want a booth, plan to attend for lunch. The authentic News Orleans fare is delicious!

The Berea Arts Fest is celebrating its 22nd year as an organization and will host the Front and Center Art Walk, a Casino Fundraiser and the Berea Arts Fest on September 9th.. Laura Moul’s beginning digital photography classes at Hobby Lobby in Barboursville on Monday evenings, and The Commons (formally known as the Museum in the Community) in Putnam Co. Park near the wave pool) on Tuesday evenings 5:30-7:30 pm. Ten students can enroll in each class. Each part is $25 with extensive reference materials included. The class has three sessions that build on each other beginning Feb 13th in Barboursville and Feb 21st in Hurricane. Nancy-Louise Mottesheard had 4 paintings installed in the permanent art collection of the University of Charleston.
Jane Ann Long was juried into the Ohio+5 bi-annual exhibition sponsored by the Dairy Barn Arts Center in Athens, Ohio. The show will feature contemporary artist from OH, IN, MI, PA, WV, & KY and runs Jan 13th thru March 10th .
