I have studied and experimented with photography since my teens, but only in the last 10 years has digital technology allowed me to create the kind of art I always wanted to do.  My training and experience as a mathematician and database programmer has given me the confidence to experiment with the latest trends in digital photography.

My work consists of both traditional black-and-white and color photography as well as digital artistry, my special passion. In this kind of work, I see the original shot as a painting. I use color, texture and tone to bring out the hidden aspects of the image. I may also make other substantial changes to the original shot in order to achieve the underlying mood I sense.

I want the final result to express my vision and to draw the viewer into that vision. In all my work – montages, collages, images that look like watercolors, oil paintings or ink sketches-- my medium is light. It is transformed with an electronic stylus and tablet, and a computer, into the kind of effects traditional artists achieve with a brush or pen and physical pigments. I hope you share my joy at the result.

I use my own state-of-the-art printers, fine art paper and inks, and digital drawing tools to further refine my digital shots. Like any other high quality art, my original photos/digital art should last 80-90 years or more when properly framed under glazing and kept out of direct sunlight.

I am a juried member of the West Virginia Art and Crafts Guild, Allied Artists of West Virginia, and Tamarack—The Best of West Virginia (both in the Fine Arts Gallery [prints and framed works] and the Crafts Division, where my Art Cards are available). I also sell my work at several galleries in West Virginia, and juried art shows in various parts of the country.

My work has won two purchase awards at the biannual People’s Bank Competition in Marietta, Ohio, cash prizes at the 2006 Parkersburg/Marietta Photography Exhibit, and the 2006 WV Arts and Crafts Guild Juried Competition, and numerous prizes at local competitions sponsored by the Parkersburg Area Camera Club.

In the April 2007 issue, my work was featured in an extended Gallery article in the State magazine, “Wonderful West Virginia”.

In the October 2007 issue, one of my images, “Misty Morning” was chosen for the cover of “Women’s View”, a Parkersburg, WV publication.
