Hi I’m Dinah Dalton McCloud, painter and artist.  I was the oldest of six children that my parents raised in Logan County.   I can remember drawing and sketching animals from a Zoo animal book that my mother had gotten through the mail for me when I was a very young child.  And I would draw from this zoo book and of photos from dictionaries and encyclopedias.  My art work was hung up by school teachers both elementary and high school.  I won the Art Award twice in High School.  Raising three daughters has kept me pretty busy thru the years and of course painting and drawing was put aside.    After being out of high school for about 20 some plus years I did some art work to help raise funds for the W.Va. Panhandle Collie Club by doing some Christmas Cards.  In 2005 I attended the “Homecoming Hues” painting retreat at North Bend State Park at Cairo, WV. studying under artist Jerry Yarnell.  I had taken some college art classes to learn as much as I could in improving my art work.    And now I have been accepted into the Allied Artists family this April juried 2009 session.  This has given me a new challenge to strive for.   I have sold several pieces of my artwork thru the last several years.  I’ve always had the love for nature which God has always inspired me with.  And I love painting my grand-children which was a very rewarding challenge for me.

The mediums that I use are acrylics, oils, water-based oils, and starting to dabble into watercolor.  I’ve done landscapes, animals, children, and still-life in my paintings.  Some of my artwork reflects the coal mining life that is rooted into my family and husbands background.  And on occasion did one painting with my husband preaching at a family once a year “Cemetery Dinner-On The Ground” meeting.   My wish is to continue improving in my artwork and try to capture some of the beauty that God has surrounded me with so others may enjoy in my artwork.
