pics.jpgStephanie Skiles, a graduate of the Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio, is pleased to be presenting her art in her hometown of West Virginia. She holds her major in time-based media studies with a minor in writing.  Its these strengths that drive her paintings to have a signature storytelling edge - like scenes taken from a graphic novel or a conceptual piece for a movie script.  Born in 1984, Stephanie constantly drew with pencils and used color to express herself.  In grade school, she won several art contests and, by the time she was in high school, she was creating art for Fine Art competitions (where she journeyed to the nationals), won a couple of first place awards for said competitions, illustrated stories for Charleston Gazette‘s Flipside issues, and helped in creating bulletin boards for her high school’s hallways.  In 2005, she had her work published in Art and Kids’ Raindrops and Lollipops publication with a piece based off of National Geographic’s infamous 1985 picture “Afghan Girl”.  When attending CCAD, she received a faculty scholarship based upon her pre-college portfolio and sustained an A- average amongst learning foundation studies, video, animation, design and illustration.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree, two years flew by before Stephanie rediscovered the passion she had for art. Now, she’s building her collection in a quant West Virginia hollow, hoping to one day showcase in a gallery and make a living off of what has always brought joy to her life.  She is influenced by graphic novel illustration and its concentration on emotion, destiny and struggling to do what‘s “right“ - while still keeping an eye on pop culture and the beauty that surrounds her every day.  Stephanie’s work is heavy in line, color and concept with hopes that, upon viewing her work, a story will be formed that will linger even after your eyes graze onto the next canvas.
