April 2014 Meeting Reminder

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, April 22nd, at 6:00pm at the South Charleston Library.  Our presenter will be John Porter, County Extension Agent with WVU. He has a Masters from WV in Horticulture, a Bachelors from MU in Biology and teaches Master Gardening. He also writes a column for the Gazette about Gardening. He will talk about designing a garden and about the public gardens where you can paint. If you have any paintings of gardens, vegetables, or flowers, please bring them to the meeting.

Reminder Art Walk April 2014

Thursday, April 17th is Art Walk in Charleston from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.  AAWV will be at Delfine's Jewelry, 245 Capitol St.  Come out and see all of the amazing art there and at the other Art Walk locations.  The weather is supposed to be great!!

Meeting on April 22nd at 6:00 at the S.C. Library

Our April meeting will be on Tuesday, April 22nd at 6:00pm at the South Charleston Library. We will have more books to give away/exchange. If you have books to give away/exchange, please bring them. AAWV Art Walk for April will be at Delfine Jewelers on April 17th from 5:00-8:00pm. Sign up by contacting Steven Holsclaw at 304-552-8254 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . It is not too late! You will need to deliver the art at 3pm, assist in hanging, and pick it up at 8pm the same day. If you can’t be there at those times, Megan at Delfine Jewelry 304-343-5058 will accept work for Art Walk on Wednesday, April 16 until 5:30. There is room for 10 small works to be displayed on table easels. About 25 larger pieces can be hung on the two walls in the windows, and six easels can be on the floor in the store.

There is an opportunity for members to display and sell their work at Dr. Patton's Office at Ashton Place. There is room for about fifty pieces of art--any subject--any media--we would like to have landscape, seascape, animals ,floral, still life, and abstract. There are three doctors in the building. They said they will buy any pieces they like for the office or their homes. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .  They plan to give a press release to the paper so if you send him an image by April 1, you may get it in the paper.  We do not have to bring food or wine. Delfine's will furnish refreshments. Deliver work to the jewelry store by 3:00 on Thursday, April 17. Pick up work 8:00.  Members can bring up to five pieces.  There is display room on the counters for pottery or small works on easels.

As of right now there is one spot open. You can call Brenda Beatty at 304-727-3015 but call soon!  Addition to materials list:  small hog's hair fan brush for painting hair (no wider than 1").  The blending brush required is a small #2-#4 "Holcrat Blender" available in "Decorative Painting Catalog"  @ $10.75  # LC272-M. Order by calling 1-800-828-0359. Arthur will have 10 of these for sale at the workshop.

Screens for Festivall

 

Betty Rivard has asked to rent the screens during FestivALL this year. If anyone in AAWV plans to use the screens during FestivAll they need to contact Sandra King immediately, so screens can be reserved for them-- This email address is being protected from spambots. Newman Jackson will have an Open House for his new studio at 717 Lee Street, 4th Floor, Charleston on Saturday, March 15,  6:00 to 10:00pm.  Come out to see some great art!!!
 
It is only one week away from the "We Love Our Community" Awards Program, Tuesday March 18, Girl Scouts Black Diamond Council, 321 Virginia Street West, 4:40-6:00 pm. Allied Artists of WV will be honored and we need as many members as possible to be there. Please arrive by 4:15 pm so Susie Salisbury can give you some last minute instructions.  There will be about 100 chairs available and plenty of standing room. They  will be serving some cookies and punch immediately following the presentation and will likely need you to stick around for some photos.
 
 
 

 

Reminder for March 11 Meeting

At our meeting on Tuesday, March 11th, we will have an art book swap/give-a-way.  If you have some art books that you don't want any more - bring them.  You can give them to other artists and you might find some that you would like to have.  The meeting is at 6:00pm at the South Charleston Library.  

You can bring your CD submission to give to Sandra for the Columbus Exhibit.

And you can bring your CD submission for the AAWV Juried Show to give to Linda.

She is going to talk about how we have to keep reinventing ourselves as artists.  Our February meeting was a lot of fun.  Sandra King demonstrated how to draw a face using your hands and fingers for measurements.  Lots of fun and surprisingly accurate.

All members of AAWV are invited to attend the "We Love Our Community Awards" presented by the Charleston Area Alliance at the Girl Scout Bldg at 321 Virginia St W on Tuesday, March 18.  They will present AAWV with an award. You may also bring coworkers, family and friends.  There is no charge to attend and it will be a fun time.
