AAWV Art Walk during Festivall was at Bailey and Glasser on Capitol Street. Over 200 people came in and some sales were made. Great Success!!! Big Thank You to the folks at Bailey and Glasser for hosting us and providing wonderful refreshments.

AAWV Art Walk for July will be on July 17 from 5:00-8:00pm. Sign up by July 15th by contacting Steven Holsclaw at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . We will be at Uncork and Create on Quarrier St. Our space is the "Main room and Back room". Set up is July 16 from 5:30-7:30 and Steven will be there to help with set-up. To drop off, enter through Atlas Building entrance, down the hall to the left, there is a brown door labeled "business office". Danielle does not want us to enter through the Boutique in the Front room. Members may bring up to three works 2-D or 3-D. They have several tables to display pottery, cards, jewelry, etc and small paintings (bring your own table easel). Title, price and artist contact information MUST be on the back of each painting. All art must be for sale and must be wired for hanging. Broken or damaged works will not be show. Participants MUST bring their own easels. Uncork and Create will not hang any works on their walls. A reminder: Art Walk is a family event – please keep this in mind when choosing art to bring (no nudes, please). All art must be removed at the end of the evening at 8:00pm. Each participant must bring finger food. Allied Artists can furnish the wine. Uncork and Create furnishes the space only. Please be courteous to their tenants and people attending classes there. We will need some participants to help set up and manage refreshments.

AAWV will have a show at Art Emporium in August opening on Tuesday August 18. Opening Reception will be with Art Walk on Thursday, August 21 from 5:00 to 8:00. All participating artists are asked to attend and bring finger food for the opening. Tracy prefers that members not bring bottled wine( too much trouble to open and pour). Members may submit two works of 2-D or 3-D art. Title, price and artist's contact information must be on the back of each piece of art submitted. All 2-D art must be wired on the back for hanging. Framing must be of professional quality. There is no size limit for this show but if your art is larger than 24"x30" then talk to Tracy at Art Emporium to see if there will be room. Delivery will be August 13 and 14 during gallery hours. Call Art Emporium 304-345-2787 to sign up and schedule a time for delivery. This show will be limited to the first 20 people who sign up.

Kathy Gallagher is asking everyone to Save The Date of August 23rd. She will host a Pig Roast at the Coonskin Clubhouse Oak Room from 10am to 2pm. All of AAWV members are invited.

Horizon: Contemporary Landscape 2014 juried exhibit - Deadline is Sept 2 and exhibit runs from Oct 1 thru Nov 14. Sponsored by The Community Arts Center (Danville, Ky.) it is an annual exhibit designed to test the limits of the term "landscape," blurring the lines between traditional and experimental works. While many artists portray classic landscape paintings, others delve into more abstract realms, submitting everything from collage and photography to mixed media and cast metal sculpture. $25 for 1 to 3 entries; $35 for 4 to 6 entries.

Bobby Loy is opening a new Small Deli Style Sandwich Shop in Downtown Huntington. Hewill be naming all the sandwiches after great writers and artists such as Rembrandt, Warhol, Van Gogh and many more. He would like to have local artists artwork on consignment in the shop to create an always changing atmosphere - switching out the art at least every 30 days. He would charge a 10% commission. But the overall concept is just for a great atmosphere and appreciation of local artists in the area. He will have a feature spot easel in the window with a different artist every week. Art Walk and Juried Show Ceremony

REMINDER:

Art Walk will be Thursday, June 26th, 5:00pm to 8:00pm.  AAWV will be at Bailey and Glasser, 209 Capitol Street.  If you have already signed up, deliver your art at 3:30pm at Bailey and Glasser and pick up after Art Walk at 8:00pm. Things to remember:  All contact information must be attached to the back of every painting displayed. On the front there needs to be a tag with only the name of the painting and the price.  Bring a display easel for every painting displayed. You can bring two larger paintings for floor easels and several small paintings if desired for display with table easels. There are no easels there.  YOU MUST BRING YOUR OWN EASELS.

The Awards Ceremony for the AAWV Juried Show will be on Sunday, June 29th at the Huntington Museum of Art, 1:00pm to 3:00pm.  The show is outstanding and it will knock your socks off!!  Don't miss it!

No meeting in June. Our picnic was last month at Little Creek Park. The weather cooperated for a change. Not too hot and not too cool. Lots of fun, great company, and delicious food. AAWV Art Walk for June will be on June 26 from 5:00-8:00pm during Festivall. Sign up by contacting Sandra King at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 304-587-2110. We will be at at Bailey and Glasser, 209 Capitol Street. We can display at least 40 paintings there. However, very few paintings can be hung on the walls--only about 6. The rest of the paintings must be displayed on floor or table easels. Sandra has only 10 floor display easels she can bring. Participants should sign up by Monday, June 9th if they want their name listed in the announcement in the paper, and email Sandra an image of their work to submit with the article (include title, media, size and all your contact info) - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Last day to sign up is Monday June 16th. Work will be placed for Art Walk starting at 3:00 pm on the 26th and picked up at the end of Art Walk at 8:00pm. You can bring three large paintings--if you can bring easels to display at least 2. There is a counter where small paintings can be displayed on a table easels which also must be supplied by the artist. All work larger than 16" x 20" must be under plexiglass. and wired on the back for hanging.-Refreshments will be provided by Bailey and Glasser.

AAWV will have a show at Art Emporium in August. Details are not complete as yet, however, we will do small works again, sizes to be announced. The show opens on August 19. The delivery will be on Thursday, August 14 and Friday August 15 to Art Emporium. Opening Reception will be on Thursday, August 21, during Art Walk. CALL FOR ARTIST SUBMISSIONS FOR CHARLESTON AREA MEDICAL CENTER CANCER CENTER

CAMC is building a new cancer center and they are looking for artists to provide art for the center. CAMC has engaged Healthcare Art Consulting, EDAC Advocate Firm, to lead the effort. The artwork program for the cancer center is centered on creating a healing journey through incorporation of artwork throughout the lobby, treatment areas and hallways. Artwork to be included in the healing environment will evoke themes of nature and portray communities in West Virginia. We encourage those who have fought, or have had a personal connection with, cancer to apply and share their stories through art.
Applications will be handled through an online application process at the project website: http://healthcareartconsulting.com/artistsubmissioncamc/. Please refer to the website for the artist submission application.
The art selection committee is seeking applications from a variety of artists who work in various media to be considered for future commission or purchase of artwork to be installed starting winter 2015 at the new cancer center.
Completed applications must be submitted by 5 p.m., Saturday, May 31.

This is the updated information for members about the delivery to Dr. Patton's Office

The sign up opportunity is now closed. We have 15 members participating, so all space is now filled.
If you are participating and already signed up here is the updated information:
You will have about 8' of hanging space--Work will be grouped together as well as we can, however, not all artists' work can be hung that way--there are nooks and small spaces that we will hang separately--whatever fits. All work must be framed and wired for hanging. Delivery date and hanging will be Friday, May 9 at 1:00. Bring a hammer--you will be hanging your work. AAWV will supply hooks and nails.
AAWV will take a 20% commission on all sales.
Work is hung at your own risk. You must sign a release. Work must stay until the end of the 3 month period--tentatively Friday, August 8, unless it is sold. If it is sold you may add a replacement piece. We will take care of sales, and AAWV will issue you a check less the 20% commission.

You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) will need a list of everything you plan to exhibit--Title, media, price--include your contact information. I will be making uniform cards for each painting. Nothing will be hung without a card. Also, make sure this information is attached to the back of each painting.

The entries have been selected for the Greater Columbus Invitational Arts Competition by our judge, Sergio Soave, Art Department Chair, Ohio State University: "Autumn Pods Greenbottom" by Julie Hamilton; "Carmina Burana" by Awyn Danielle Milam; Untitled by Ray Kleykamp. Congratulations to these members. I know they will represent AAWV very well.

There is an opportunity for members to display and sell their work at Dr. Patton's Office at Ashton Place. There is room for about fifty pieces of art--any subject--any media--we would like to have landscape, seascape, animals ,floral, still life, and abstract. There are three doctors in the building. They said they will buy any pieces they like for the office or their homes. Work will stay on display about three months, and then we will change the paintings. April 2014 Meeting Reminder

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, April 22nd, at 6:00pm at the South Charleston Library.  Our presenter will be John Porter, County Extension Agent with WVU. He has a Masters from WV in Horticulture, a Bachelors from MU in Biology and teaches Master Gardening. He also writes a column for the Gazette about Gardening. He will talk about designing a garden and about the public gardens where you can paint. If you have any paintings of gardens, vegetables, or flowers, please bring them to the meeting.
