Newman Jackson will be our speaker at the next AAWV meeting on Thursday, Nov 9, at 6:00 pm at the Dunbar Public Library, 301 12th St, Dunbar, WV 25064. Newman will be talking about linear and atmospheric perspectives in paintings and photography, something most of us can either learn or be reminded of! 2023 AAWV Christmas Dinner will be held at the Italian Grille, Putnam Village, Hurricane, WV 25526 on Thurs, Dec 7th at 6:00 pm. The cost for the buffet for one person is $15.95, which includes water. Other drinks and dessert are extra. ***We are asking members to purchase and bring art items that will again be donated to the Underwood Children’s Home in Ona, WV. We had such a generous response last year, and we hope even more items will be donated this year. You have plenty of time to watch for sales at Michael’s and other art stores, or some of you may already have extra art supplies you can share. This is a beneficial cause that means so much to the kids.
NEW MEMBERSHIP JURY SESSIONS: Our new member jury session process will change in 2024. We will jury quarterly, and those dates are: January 13, April 13, July 13, and October 12. Applicants will send photos of 5 of their artworks, both front and back (to show they are wired), along with the application form and payment, either by check or Paypal on the AAWV website. DUES: January 1, 2024 is the date when AAWV dues should be paid for 2024. This is a change from previous years. We have cancelled our post office box since the rate has gone up. You can also pay your dues by Paypal on the AAWV website.

MEMBER RECOGNITION: Welcome to our new members who juried in October, 2023: Sarah Furrow, Joan Pennington, Steve Sisson, and Peggy Smith.
New member Sarah Furrow gave a very informative presentation at our October meeting. She began working in the art medium of Pyrography (wood burning) in 2017, and is self taught by experimentation. Sarah’s passion for her art was evident as we watched her demonstration. Good job, Sarah!
